What sort of Japanese fabrics do you carry?

We stock kimono silk in the traditional width of between 35 and 37 centimetres but we also carry cottons (including indigo dyed). Almost all of our fabric is in very good or excellent condition and the new cottons are of course brand new. However, some vintage fabrics may contain stains/marks or small imperfections that need to be worked around. If this is the case, these stains/marks will be noted in the product description and if possible a photograph shown.

How much can I get of one particular fabric?

The absolute maximum fabric on an untouched roll of vintage fabric (silk and yukata cotton) is approximately 10-12 metres.

For new cottons we generally only stock around 5 metres of any one fabric (110cm wide). However, we are happy to source larger quantities direct from Japan which usually takes around 2 weeks.

What is the smallest amount I can buy?

We sell our vintage Japanese fabrics in multiples of 50 cm. So, our smallest length is 50 cm.

We sell our new cotton in multiples of fat quarters (50x55cm).

Sorry, due to the limited amount of fabric on each roll we do not supply samples.

How do I wash vintage Japanese silk?

You can have your silk items drycleaned however, contrary to belief silk is not difficult or scary to maintain.

Wash in cool to cold water with a splash of wool wash or pure soap flakes. Submerge fabric and give a gentle swish around leaving in the water for no more than 4-5 minutes.

Support when removing from the water – do not wring but gently squeeze before rinsing once again in cool water. Wet items can be rolled in a towel to remove excess water before being hung or laid out flat in shade. Iron when still damp with a dry iron if required (silk loves steam).

How do you ship?

Purchased items can be mailed anywhere in the world through Australia Post. Postage costs are additional to any purchase (excluding domestic shipping of retail orders of $100 or more) and will be determined prior to the completion of the transaction.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Orders are shipped within two business days (usually one) from receipt of payment and will take two to seven business days to arrive for delivery within Australia depending on the destination.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. All international orders are sent by standard pack and track airmail or express international.
